SINOPSIS

Una biografía inspirada en la vida de J. Edgar Hoover, un hombre brillante que a los 29 años fue nombrado director del FBI. Revolucionó el sistema de archivo e implantó la identificación de los ciudadanos por sus huellas dactilares y le asignó un número a cada uno. Fue temido y admirado en su cargo hasta el día de su muerte en 1972. Es uno de los hombres más importantes de la historia de EEUU que cuenta con una excelente reputación y secretos que la habrían comprometido.

Este largometraje une a dos grandes del séptimo arte, el talento incalculable que ha conseguido DiCaprio y que una vez más demuestra con su brillante interpretación, y las dotes de un maestro del drama como Eastwood.

La película narra una biografía de principio a fin desde que el agente J. Edgar Hoover decidiera revolucionar el sistema de investigación policial, le nombraran director del FBI y trabajara incansablemente hasta el día de su muerte.

La ambientación es perfecta, el reparto inmejorable y la historia correcta, aunque he de decir que para mi gusto se trata de una biografía completamente lineal que da como resultado una película plana. Una película en la que DiCaprio consigue emocionar con su interpretación de genio torturado, esta vez por su orientación sexual, lo que en público hubiera sido el fin de la carrera de Hoover.

Como decía, históricamente conocemos a un gran personaje estadounidense narrado en dos horas y cuarto de pura desesperación. No es un film muy bien acogido por el público de la sala, al menos en mi presencia, hay que reconocer que la película es lenta y bastante densa como casi todos los trabajos que dirige Eastwood. Hubo quien salió tras hora y media de largometraje, quien juró que nunca más dejarían elegir cartel a su acompañante y quien se echó algo más que una cabezadita.

De principio a fin se cuentan detalladamente los 48 años de Hoover en el cuerpo y su abuso de poder por disponer de archivos privados de altos cargos americanos. Superviviente a 7 presidentes no todos amigables, y amante de su fiel compañero Tolson el cual demuestra su inclinación prácticamente desde el principio, lo que crea una tensión no resuelta a lo largo de todo el film.

Película vista y no se si para recomendar, de cualquier manera, bravo por DiCaprio que una vez más se ha consagrado como actor y bravo por Eastwood que ha hecho una biografía audiovisual de manera exquisita a pesar de no ser fácil de asimilar.

SYNOPSIS

It is a biography inspirited in J. Edgar Hoover’s life, a brilliant young man who became FBI director at the age of 29. He changed the file system and creates a system that identifies every citizen in the USA by their fingerprints and giving a number to each of them. He was admired and feared too until his death in 1972. He was one of the most important men in EEUU and had an excellent reputation; a reputation that maybe would have been compromised if his most deep secrets were made public.

This movie shows two great men of the seventh art, the talented DiCaprio that once again proves us that is a brilliant actor and Eastwood is just a drama master.

The film tells the biography of J. Edgar Hoover from beginning to the end, since the agent decided to change the police investigation system and was named FBI director until his death.

Scenery is perfect and the cast too. The story is proper though it tells a biography that makes a plain film; In which DiCaprio with his play of a tortured genius with a sexual orientation dilemma does not let the audience indifferent. This dilemma would probably have ended with his career if someone would know about it.

As I was saying, historically, we learn about a very important personality of the USA, shown in two hours and a half of pure desperation. Not as well received by the public as it was expected, at least in my presence. The film is slow and a little intense as all Eastwood’s works. There were those who after hour and a half gave up and left the room, and those who just slept almost all the movie.

From the beginning to the end the film shows with every detail 48 years of Edgar Hoover’s life, his work in the police and the excessive power he had for having some private documents that affect American 'big fish'. He runs the FBI during seven president’s mandate with the help of his faithful Tolson; they had probably a too close friendship.

So, film watched and not so recommendable, but congrats to DiCaprio for his play, once again he has proved that he is great and congrats to Eastwood that has made an exquisite audiovisual biography though it was not an easy assimilation one.
