It is time to end with The Sweetest Battle, not forever, only for now. Maybe we'll continue with this project someday, but after 6 months of curious results it is time to take a break and try other recipes, not thematic ones but also interesting.
First of all I want to thank your interest and enthusiasm during this battle. And all your votes too!!
It’s been 6 months of doubts, laughs, nerves and lots of sweet discovering. 6 months in which we have tried to improve ourselves with every project and in which the ‘that’s not possible’ issue have no place in our minds.
Thanks also to Sonia (Sin sapos ni princesas) for sharing this project with me and be a great opponent. It has been a great time and very intriguing too!
I leave here a summary of My battle. Enjoy!!

Empezamos!
INGREDIENTES
·125gr
de mantequilla
·275gr
de azúcar
·2
huevos
·280gr
de harina
·15gr
de cacao en polvo
·1
cucharadita de levadura
·1
cucharadita de bicarbonato
·¼
de cucharadita de sal
·240gr
de buttermilk
·Colorante
rojo en gel (utilicé Wilton)
·1
cucharadita de vinagre blanco
·1
cucharadita de extracto de vainilla
HERRAMIENTAS
·2 boles grandes
·1 bol mediano
·Cucharas grandes y pequeñas
a discreción
·1 bandeja redonda
No parece

QUEEN
OF HEARTS CAKE
According
to the date, in the most romantic month of the year (though I do not like very
much this kind of things), the issue could not be other than Saint Valentines
day. After thinking a lot, as in every battle project, I decided to make a
red velvet cake. That attractive red cake with velvet texture; I have to try it
so here it goes.
Studying
some recipes and tips on the Internet I’ve noticed that lots of bloggers have
done this cake. They write about their successes and failures and share some useful tips like what or where to buy some ingredients to get the best results. You have to follow the recipe carefully.
Finally
I decided to follow Bea’s instructions that are very well explained in her blog
‘El Rincón de Bea’, and mix her wisdom with my inspiration (a little risky).
When you've finished you notice that the red is not so red and the round either and you don’t know why; but for being the first time I make this recipe I
am very happy with the results.
Let’s
start!
INGREDIENTS
·125gr of butter
·275gr of sugar
·2 eggs
·280gr of flour
·15gr of cocoa (powder)
·1 teaspoon of baking powder
·1 teaspoon of bicarbonate
·¼ teaspoon of salt
·240gr of buttermilk
·Red colouring (gel)
·1 teaspoon of white vinegar
·1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
TOOLS
·2 big bowls
·1 medium bowl
·Spoons and teaspoons
·1 round tray
·3 round baking pans (18cm)
·A spatula
First of all you have to make the Red Velvet mass, let’s do this slowly.
We mix the ‘solid’ ingredients first in a big bowl (sift flour, cocoa, baking
powder, bicarbonate and salt) and reserve.
In a medium bowl we add the buttermilk, the vanilla essence, the vinegar
and the colouring (as you wish) and reserve the mixture too.
In other big bowl we mix butter with sugar until you get a homogeneous
mass and then add the eggs one by one beating them properly. When you got it,
add the other mixtures to this one. Make it carefully; add the solid in three
parts and the red liquid in two (by turns).
Grease the baking pans with some oil and put the mass on them dividing
it proportionally. Cook the sponges for about 25 minutes with the oven
preheated 180ºC (time depends on the oven and temperature. BE AWARE!! If you
cook them too much, they will loose their texture and will be too dry and not so
red).
Take the sponges out of the oven; 10 minutes later take them out of the
baking pans to let them get cold (better on a rack).
While the sponges are baking, let’s make the sugar hearts for decorate
our cake…
INGREDIENTS
·½ cup of sugar
·2 teaspoons of whites
·Gel colouring
TOOLS
·2 small bowls
·A spatula
·2 baking paper
·A roller pin
·A heart cutter
·A teaspoon
This kind of decorating is beautiful and easy to make, I discovered the
recipe a few days ago on Pinspire. It was firstly pinned at Wedding Chicks, a very original wedding blog with amazing photos.
This idea has inspired me form the beginning; I do have to make it. I'll
tell you how: put ½ cup of sugar in a small bowl and food colouring as you
want. If you use gel colouring, put only a couple of drops. Once you make this,
mix the sugar and colouring with a spatula until all the sugar gets the
appropriate colour. You have to mix it for a while, so be patient.
When the sugar gets the colour you want, add two teaspoons of whites (in
the instructions it said that you have to add enough to make the heart properly but not too much because the sugar will dissolve... Good luck) when it’s
ready (now sugar has a lot of colour and it is very bright and consistent), put
the sugar in the oven paper and extend it with a roller pin.
Then take the cutter and make lots of hearts, put them one by one into
an oven tray. If the heart gets stuck into the cutter use a knife or a cooking
needle to get them out. Be careful not to break it!
All the hearts are on the tray, now put then into the oven for 10
minutes preheated up to 200ºC. Maybe you think is not possible, but when they
are cooked, you get hard sugar candy hearts (the colour gets darker).
The sponges are cold and the sugar hearts ready. Now let’s make the
frosting.
INGREDIENTS
·300gr of cream cheese (like Philadelphia)
·150gr of icing sugar
·1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
·500gr of whipping cream
TOOLS
·1 big bowl
·A spoon
·Beaters
·Minipimer
·1 medium bowl
Mix the cream cheese with icing sugar in a big bowl. Add some vanilla
essence (as you wish) and reserve it.
Whip the cream (must be cold) until is consistent (but do not make
butter!), add the cream slowly into the cheese mixture with wide moves until it
get a homogenous frosting.
Everything is ready!! Let’s put the icing on the cake to finish our
supercake!
To finish our Red Velvet cake we may need: a round tray, a spatula and
lots of touch.
Put some frosting into the tray, then put a sponge on it, then take the
spatula and cover all the sponge too. When it’s done put the second sponge and
cover it with frosting again including the walls. Then put the last sponge and
cover it well, all the surface and walls. Put a generous volume of frosting to
have our total white cake.
Then helped with a pastry make some details with the frosting you
have left. And now put sugar hearts wherever you want!! It is done!
¡Empezamos!
INGREDIENTES
Para el bizcocho
-1 yogur
-3 vasos de yogur de harina
-2 vasos de yogur de azúcar
-1/2 vaso de yogur de aceite
-3 huevos
-2 o 3 cucharadas grandes de cacao en polvo
-1 cucharadita de levadura
Para los cake pops
-1 bizcocho de chocolate
-Queso de untar tipo Philadelphia
-Azúcar glass
-Chocolate negro de cobertura
-Un poco de leche
-Icing para decorar: rojo, amarillo y verde
-Sticks de madera
-Pieza de foam
HERRAMIENTAS
-Molde de aluminio para bizcochos
-Varillas
-1 bol grande
-1 cuchara grande
-2 boles pequeños
-1 cuchara pequeña
¡A trabajar!

CAKE POP CHINESE DRAGON. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
To celebrate the Chinese New Year we have chosen a very oriental challenge. As every year the dragon could not miss in the main procession of the party. My dragon is made of delicious cake pops!!
Let’s start!
INGREDIENTS
To make the sponge
-1 yogurt
-3 yogurt cups of flour
-2 yogurt cups of sugar
-1/2 yogurt cup of oil
-3 eggs
-2 o 3 spoons of cocoa powder
-1 teaspoon of baking powder
For the cake pops
-1 chocolate sponge
-Cream cheese
-Icing sugar
-Dark Chocolate for desserts
-Some milk
-Decorating icing: red, yellow and green
-Sticks
-Foam base
TOOLS
-A baking pan
-Beaters
-1 big bowl
-1 spoon
-2 small bowls
-A teaspoon
Let’s begin!
To make the sponge mix al the ingredients in a big bowl and grease the baking pan with some butter and a bit of flour, preheat the oven up to 180ºC and when it’s ready put the mixture into the baking pan and cook it for about 40 minutes (depends on the oven and the temperature you use). Once the sponge has grown, prick it with a cooking needle or a knife and if it gets out clean your cake is done!
When it’s cold, cut the sponge in four pieces and scratch each part to crumble them in a bowl. Once we have the sponge crumbled put some cream in a little bowl (about four spoons of cream) and mix it with the icing sugar to make the frosting. When it’s ready mix it with the sponge crumbles in the big bowl.
Mix the mass with your hands and make little balls for making the cake pops. They will look better if they are almost the same size, except the head of course; to make the head use all your patience, your hands and lots of imagination. (Also one or two tries).
When the little balls are done, prick them into the sticks and then into de foam.
Melt the chocolate in a bowl with a bit of milk and mix it homogenously with a spoon. Pick the cake pops and cover them with chocolate. Be careful not to put too much chocolate or it will be a mess! Put the chocolate cake pops into the base again and let them get cold (better in the fridge).
When they are cold, we decorate them with res, green and yellow icing.
The head is covered with dark chocolate. I put it on the fridge for a while, then I've decorated it with some icing. I prick it on the stick just for the photo because is heavier than the other cake pops so that it won't break it.
I have covered the foam base with Clingfilm, aluminium paper and yellow wrapping paper. Then I put all the cake pops on it shaping a Chinese dragon, now we can celebrate the New Year!!
