De raíces húngaro-eslovacas, este polifacético actor nacido en Westport, EEUU el 26 de enero de 1925, ha pasado a la historia no sólo por su talento en la gran pantalla sino por tener una de las miradas más emblemática del séptimo arte.
Newman cuenta con una extensa carrera tanto dentro como fuera de la gran pantalla, y es que muchas son las bondades que lo definen.

Tras servir a la armada y graduarse en Ciencias Económicas, estudia artes escénicas en Yale. Después de hacer papeles secundarios en la televisión y alguna película de no muy buena acogida por la crítica, alcanza el éxito con el film de 1956 Marcado por el odio.

El actor es además un fanático del mundo del motor, corredor profesional desde 1972. Participó en las 24 horas de Le Mans de 1979 quedando en segundo puesto. En el 95, en las 24 horas de Daytona. En 1983 fundó junto con Carl Haas su propio equipo de CART, el Newman/Haas.
Famoso en el vecindario por su aclamado aliño para ensaladas en 1982 funda la marca alimenticia Newmn’s Own que comercializa la conocida salsa entre otras, destinando todos sus beneficios a los más necesitados.
Además, Newman muy concienciado con el problema de la drogadicción tras perder a su hijo por sobredosis, funda el Centro Scott Newman en memoria de éste para ayudar a personas victimas de la droga.
Su lado más solidario no termina aquí, y es que el actor gran concienciado con ayudar a los más desfavorecidos constantemente, crea los Hole in the Wall Camps, campamentos de verano para niños con graves enfermedades, gratuitos y subvencionados en los que trabajan miles de voluntarios.
