SINOPSIS

Bravo.

SYNOPSIS

In late twenties, George Valentine is the star of Hollywood silent pictures. When he gets to the top he met Peppy Miller, a lively dancer who wants to be an actress and work near Valentine. A couple of years later, silent films ought to be obsolete with the appearance of talk films. Valentine does not conceive this change and his career sinks. Meanwhile, Miller bights on the big screen making lots of talk films ‘talkies’. Valentine goes bankrupt while cinema industries goes younger and bright thank to Miller. Would talkies be able to finish with ‘The Great’ of silent films?
*********
The starring of every festival of the year is this silent film set on the twenties. Always with good critics, this master piece is a winner in every category in which it has been nominated, it won 2 Golden Globes Awards and 7 BAFTA’s. It has also one of the best actors of this season, Jean Dujardin that brights especially because of his amazing mimic and empathy.

The movie let the audience view the twenties immediately, travelling through the Roaring Twenties in which everything was joy and luxury until the 29th Crack. Both moments are shown in an extraordinary way, at the beginning Valentine is a successful actor, but coinciding with the economic crack he looses everything: his fame, job and money. There are difficult times in which only Miller seems to succeed.

The scenery can’t be described with words. It’s simply perfect. It is a film that recreates ancient silent films but made with lots of resources which made the movie brights itself.
The cast is very talented, Dujardin plays his role perfectly from the start to the end making the viewer enjoy and suffer with all what happened to the character. He is a true gentleman of the decade that makes you forget that there’s a modern cinema as we see nowadays and makes you think you are watching a twenties silent film. On the other hand, we have to highlight Bejo’s role which fits her like a globe. It seems like she had live in the twenties like forever with the aesthetic and bold moves she has.

This movie with every image charms the viewer and creates also a magic atmosphere. We can’t forget its soundtrack. I think it is a privilege seeing a film with orchestra music as in real silent films. This let the movie show each character emotion and makes you understand better all situations without a Word. Bravo.
